Integrated magnetooptic cross strip isolator
A bimodal planar waveguide segment of specific length and thickness between two thinner single mode sections can serve as an interferometer. Depending on the phase gain of the two modes in the thick region, these fields can interfere destructively or constructively at the transition from the bimodal to the single mode section. We employ this geometry to realize a simple magnetooptic isolator co...
متن کاملTM-mode AlGaInAs/InP Amplifying Waveguide Optical Isolator with 12.7dB Isolation
We present the development of a monolithically integratable optical isolator. The device is a semiconductor optical amplifier with magnetized ferromagnetic metal contact. 12.7dB isolation and optical transparency are demonstrated. The spectral dependence is studied. ©2005 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (230.3240) Isolators; (250.5980) Semiconductor optical amplifiers; (230.3810) Magneto...
متن کاملA Broadband Waveguide Thermal Isolator
This paper describes a new, compact, waveguide thermal isolator. The isolator is based on a recently developed microwave bandgap joint, a periodic structure which suppresses microwave fields propagating between two parallel conducting surfaces. When such a structure is placed between a pair of waveguide flanges, the flanges can be separated by a few percent of a wavelength before the leakage an...
متن کاملEnhancing optical isolator performance in nonreciprocal waveguide arrays.
We investigate the operation of optical isolators based on magneto-optics waveguide arrays beyond the coupled mode analysis. Semi-vectorial beam propagation simulations demonstrate that evanescent tail coupling and the effects of radiation are responsible for degrading the device's performance. Our analysis suggests that these effects can be mitigated when the array size is scaled up. In additi...
متن کاملNon-Magneto-Optic Waveguide Isolator
We report on a novel technique to realize a waveguide optical isolator without using conventional magneto-optical materials and external magnets. The simulations are repeatedly performed using Beam Propagation Method (BPM) to confirm the accuracy. The simulation results show that the forward and backward propagations reach 2.54 and 15.68 dB, respectively.
